"Photography is the capturing of light," begins Lawrence Elbroch about the art form he cherishes. He has been capturing light quite beautifully for much of his life. "I'm a technical person," he says, "so I gravitated to a technical art form - one in which I have to think logically, technically about how to capture the image I'm looking for."

Larry's career path reflects this "technical person": born and raised in the New York metropolitan area, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968. The Air Force took him to the village of Aldeburgh in Britain, where the two of us met and soon married. Larry's military career was both varied and demanding. He worked his way through the ranks - earning his BS in (Electrical) Engineering and MS in Systems Management along the way - and retired as an officer. His career took him from missile electronics to software/hardware engineering and, finally, to program management. Over half of his military career was spent working on such complicated programs as AWACS and BMEWS.

In 1982, this Air Force career brought our family to Nashua, New Hampshire. New England found a special place in our hearts and, in 1988, Larry retired from the Air Force so that our family could remain in this place we've come to call home. He went to work for Applied Research and Engineering - later SenCom Corporation - a company that provided technical and management support to U.S. Government projects.

A man of abiding principles, Larry ultimately became uncomfortable with the ethics of defense contracting and left his position as general manager at SenCom. At the same time, Larry and I built a smaller, energy-efficient house in Peterborough, New Hampshire that would allow us to downsize and live as modestly as possible. The two of us went into business together to pursue our respective arts.

Ever the self-professed "technical person," Larry soon chose to re-enter the work force - this time working for the state of New Hampshire - while continuing to pursue his love and talent for his technically-demanding profession as a photographer. He has earned a number of awards, along with juried membership in both the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and the New Hampshire Art Association. We now reside in Kittery, Maine to be closer to our family.
