This village elder is a member of the Akhe tribe who live in one of the Myanmar hill villages. Their houses are on stilts with a wide bamboo ladder. They are dark and smoky inside as a fire is kept alight continuously and the older ladies sit round puffing on their pipes. Their ethnic clothing was elaborately embroidered and involved a complex turban that stored your pipe and tobacco. The villagers live sustainably but obviously like a bit extra they were very pleased we were eventually persuaded to buy bead necklaces and bracelets. There were animals and chickens underfoot including huge dark grey pigs that snuffled about and slept lazily under the houses. It was a privilege to see people untouched by the modern world.
